Ribbon Cutting:
On June 3, 2026, The Learning Tree (Elgin West) celebrated its 30th anniversary, marking three decades of dedicated service to children and families in the Elgin community. The Elgin Area Chamber was honored to participate in this milestone celebration and recognize The Learning Tree's continued growth and positive impact within the community. The Chamber commemorated the occasion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring ribbons, confetti, and ceremonial scissors.
Supporting and celebrating the accomplishments of local businesses is a vital part of the Elgin Area Chamber's mission. Chamber representatives, community members, and supporters gathered to recognize The Learning Tree's lasting impact and continued dedication to nurturing children during their formative years. These events provide an opportunity to recognize organizations that contribute to the strength and vitality of the community while fostering meaningful connections and continued growth. The Learning Tree's 30-year milestone was a well-deserved celebration of its longstanding commitment to providing quality childcare and early childhood education to generations of families.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony featured several speakers who reflected on The Learning Tree's history, achievements, and continued progress. Elgin Area Chamber President and CEO Carol Gieske opened the celebration by congratulating The Learning Tree on its 30th anniversary and expressing appreciation for the organization's lasting contributions to the Elgin community. Following her, Shelly Allen, Head Director of The Learning Tree (Elgin West), shared the story of the organization's founding and introduced Pat and Kathy Hannell, the founders of The Learning Tree. She also highlighted the growth of the organization's additional locations and its expansion over the past several decades.
Allen then invited Kathy Hannell to speak about The Learning Tree's history and its journey to becoming a trusted resource for families throughout the region. Reflecting on the organization's mission and values, Hannell shared, "That's what it's all about—taking extra care of the children." Her words captured the compassion, dedication, and commitment to excellence that have been at the heart of The Learning Tree since its inception and continue to guide its work today.
Ribbon-cutting events such as this one serve as meaningful opportunities to celebrate the achievements and milestones of businesses within the Elgin Area Chamber community. Recognizing one another's successes strengthens local connections and contributes to the continued growth and prosperity of the region.
