PADS of Elgin Celebrates Grand Reopening and Looks to the Future

Ribbon Cutting

A New Chapter

The atmosphere was electric at PADS of Elgin as we celebrated the Grand Reopening and Ribbon Cutting of our newly renovated shelter space! It was an incredible day filled with community spirit, gratitude, and a shared vision for serving those experiencing homelessness in our area.

The event, which took place on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, marked more than just a fresh coat of paint. Thanks to the generosity of our landlord, Wayside Cross Ministries, the makeover included new flooring, updated paint, improvements to the kitchen, and reorganized office space—all creating a more welcoming and stabilizing environment for our guests.

We were honored to welcome a crowd of supporters, chamber members, and community partners to tour the facility and see firsthand the refreshed space where we provide shelter, connection to services, and the support needed for lasting change. Seeing the smiles on everyone's faces truly highlighted the power of community coming together.

A Challenge and a Call to Action

While we celebrated this wonderful renovation, we were also transparent about the urgent financial challenges PADS of Elgin is currently facing. The end of COVID-era funding, without new federal funding to replace it, has left us with a significant budget shortfall.

Executive Director Katie Shaw Thompson shared a powerful message: "Now we need your help to keep those doors open. The work we do now depends entirely on the generosity of our community."

We need to raise $500,000 to sustain our mission through the winter. This funding is crucial to ensuring we can continue to offer a safe, warm, and stable place for individuals and families in their time of greatest need.
